KJ's Fav Books & TV for 2023
"The only true limitation is the one you set for yourself." -Unknown
If you listen to the #RaisingAthletes podcast, have heard me speak in person or on the multitude of interviews I’ve done this year, I often mention books and documentaries that inform my work and inspire my coaching. As I know we all love lists😊 , here are some of my favorites of 2023!
BOOKS
I go in phases, where I’ll plow through a couple books back-to-back and then may hit a lull and not read for a month or two. But typically have two to three books going at any one time. I LOVE holding books (sorry, Kindle). But I also love listening to books. I hike most days and almost always have a podcast or book cued up which gets my pup and I through a quick hour+ hike. Getting sweaty while listening to inspiring people 10x’s my momentum and pushes me through my work for the day. Whether it’s prepping for a call with a client, interviewing a guest on my podcast or reaching out to someone I don’t yet know from my “DREAM100” list to try and “play bigger” and get myself out there on a new and different stage. It’s all about making the most of the day you are given. Every day we get to decide if we’re going to phone it in, or “go for it!”
Speaking of listening, when I was asked if I wanted to do the audio version of my book, I jumped at the chance. I love hearing the author’s words, directly as they wrote them, in the tone that they intended for them to be spoken. And it’s been so fun this fall to meet people who have come up to me and said, “I feel like I already know you. I listen to your podcast and I listened to your book!”
So, while this list isn’t all-encompassing, for example I loaned my copy of the wonderful new book by @Jennifer Wallace, Never Enough, and it should definitely be on this list(!), it does show books I’ve either read this year, revisited for new pearls of wisdom or have inspired my teaching and my work. Whenever I get asked to give a talk, I like to make it “new and fresh” and while my themes are all similar, it’s fun to challenge myself to grow and learn something new or different.
Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order😉).

What are some of YOUR favorite books? And how do you like to consume them (book, kindle, audible)?
What book has inspired you the most in 2023? And what’s a goal you’d like to look back at the end of 2024 and say, “Yes, I did that!” I’ve got some B-I-G ideas brewing for 2024, I plan to really swing for the fences and makes some big asks along the way. Who wants to come with me?
TV
60 Minutes interview - Novak Jokovic - CBS
Steph Curry Documentary - AppleTV+
The Playbook Documentary - Netflix
Beckham Documentary - Netflix
Tanya and I have had an amazing Fall book tour. To everyone who hosted, showed up, wished me well, sent positive juju, bought a book (or two!) or just plain held space for me to dream big, Thank you. I feel incredibly blessed to get to do what I do. And I LOVE it.
We wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday season!
Let’s do this!
