Great leaders embrace their role by lifting up their teammates, looking fear in the eye (and going for it, anyway).
The good news about fear is it’s a muscle. We can all develop these skills. The more we use it the better we get at it. What we focus on, expands (both positively and negatively).
What fear are YOU facing today?
Perhaps it the one that you’ve had on your bucket list for a while, “Yeah, I make that pitch” (one day). “I’ll play on the top team "(some day). “'I’ll ask for that raise” (soon).
Me? Five years when Susie Walton and I started the #RaisingAthletes podcast we started by writing down our “Dream 💯 list”. If we could get ANYONE on the podcast, who would we ask to be on? Full disclosure, the list has some crazy names on there… “Yeah, right Kir, you can dream all you want about speaking with Michelle Obama, Oprah or Serena Williams, but it’s not likely,” you might say. And to that I would say, “You are correct.” But here is the thing about Dream 💯 lists, that’s exactly what they are— lists to take you outside of your comfort zone. Ways to make you think about what’s really possible when you take “but how?” out of the equation.
#1 on that list was Kobe Bryant. And it wasn’t such a stretch. Susie’s son, Luke, played with Kobe on the Lakers, so we decided to save that ask until we had done a couple dozen episodes. Sigh. We only have today, which reminds us to just go for it!
Also, very close to the tippy top of that list is NBA🏀 9-time legendary world champion player and coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr.
So, it took a min (ok, 5 years), but today was the day! 😀 And MAN, was it worth it! You are going to LOVE this episode. He is the real deal. 100% authentically human, kind and thoughtful. You can tell how much he cares about his players and family and mission and that is a beautiful thing.
Was I scared? Ok, maybe a little bit… but the far more prevalent feeling and self-talk was that I did my research, I have done all “the reps”, now was time to let ‘er rip and enjoy the ride. I mostly felt gratitude that I got to play catch with one of the best in the biz with my teammate extraordinaire, Susie.
Build that muscle. Keep attempting to do that hard thing, especially when it scares you and makes you feel like you wanna throw up a bit. Yes, that one! On the other side of that is your bliss.
The stage was set. I’d done the work. When the cameras were rolling, I let the pressure to be perfect go and envisioned the show going beautifully. It was a beautiful hour; we can’t wait to share it with you!
Five years later, Episode 💯 of the #RaisingAthletes podcast is coming (4/15/24!)
Until then, the countdown is on. Next week, we will recount our favorite episodes of #RaisingAthletes podcasts. All of us at Team KJ will highlight one of our favorites as we want to reshare the journey with you. And, on April 15th, we will give you this episode with 5-time NBA champ as a player and 4-time NBA champ as a coach, Steve Kerr🎉🎉

Join us THIS MONDAY, APRIL 8th (via ZOOM) for this Mindset Mastery Workshop where I’ll teach you game changing tools to unlock your superpowers 🦸♂️🦸♀️
On this call, I’ll be sharing tools, tips and tricks for how to get what you want. And here’s the really good news, there is NO magic. Although, as a mom, sitting on the sidelines, watching one of my kids not get what they really wanted, I wish it were that easy!
And by the way, this is about getting whatever YOU want in life. Athletes, maybe it’s making the team or getting more playing time. Parents, maybe for you, it’s getting that dream job or taking that once in a lifetime vacation. Whatever it is YOU want, that’s what these tools can help you create.
Workshop #1 - Winning Mindset
Remember this image from the National Championship game? When Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy held the National Championship trophy aloft in Houston, it wasn’t the first time he’d done so.
Sure, McCarthy had not won a College Football National Championship before this year, but he’d seen himself doing it before, inside his own mind using the power of visualization.
Kirsten will give a 60-minute talk, with a 30-minute Q&A on how visualization can help anyone achieve not only their goals but also stretch and embolden their dreams. Kirsten’s unique technique of remembering the future has helped her reach distant goals as she maintained the energy to show up for years on end.
You don’t want to miss this first event as there will be a special offer at the end for anyone who signs up! A $30 ticket will give you full access to the workshop, Q&A, as well as the ability to rewatch the workshop for up to 7 days following!
Tickets to each workshop are $30:
A 60-minute talk from Kirsten Jones
A 30-minute Q&A
Downloadable resources on the topic
A 7-day rewatch
